RESTRICTIONS - Tuesday 13 May, 2008
Are you aware of the assault that reptiles and the hobbyist that love reptiles are under? If you live in Texas please update yourself on the new restrictions that Texas Parks and Wildlife decided to throw on tax paying citizens. Please go to NON-GAME wildlife on the TPW website: www.tpwd.state.tx.us If you love your reptiles as much as I do, I encourage you to look up these rules so that you will understand why, as a store AND as an individual, you can no longer enjoy certain animals thanks to an unelected entity making rules and regulations, (which could be enforced without a warrant and forcefully!), that affect our freedoms as TEXANS, and as US citizens. It is true that mistakes have been made in the past, with out care and plain lack of knowledge, including the release of unwanted animals. If you are an avid hobbyist or just a beginner you SHOULD have the opportunity to collect and keep these animals for the learning experience as well as for the long term hobbyist! Who has contributed more to the proper care and breeding of these animals than the individual REPTILE HOBBYIST??? How did we get to the point that we need a "nanny" to tell us what we can or cannot have? As a store front, I have tried very hard to explain the proper care of reptiles and the limitations imposed by LACK OF KNOWLEDGE. For those of you that have shopped my store you KNOW I am very thorough at explaining the short and long term care and expectations. I encouraged my readers last month to write letters to USFW to avoid a potential ban on ALL imported boas and pythons ( a direct result of the Florida problem). Please find out what we are up against on the local and state level. Stay involved, write your letters (cc them to me, I'd like to know what you think!) and be RESPONSIBLE. If you want to come by and visit about YOUR particular animal, please do...I like talking 'shop'! Please email or call if you have any questions.
